Five Count: Future World Champions

When The Miz won Money in the Bank on Sunday, I said if he's not WWE Champion by WrestleMania 27, WWE's doing something wrong. Well, what other WWE Superstars fall into that category? Here are the top five people (besides The Miz) that should win their first World/WWE Championship by no later than the end of 2011.

5. Wade Barrett
I hesitate even putting him on the list because it seems like a forgone conclusion at this point. He's not exactly the most exciting in-ring worker that I've ever seen, but after he gets to work proper matches with the likes of John Cena, Randy Orton, Triple H, Chris Jericho and other top stars, Barrett will fit right in with the WWE main event scene. I wouldn't be shocked if Wade Barrett doesn't even wait until 2011, he could end 2010 as WWE Champion.

4. Matt Hardy
Has the ship sailed on the elder Hardy brother? Matt is consistently over with the audience, he gets cheered no matter what from his die hard fanbase, but can he truly win the big one? In wrestling, it's rarely "too late" for anyone, the right storyline or the right match could put someone right back in the thick of the title scene (just ask Kane), but it's definitely going to be an uphill battle for Matt Hardy. I think all he really needs is a makeover - new ring attire, a haircut, a new attitude - and he could easily be a top contender on Smackdown.

3. Ezekiel Jackson
A few months back, I put Big Zeke in the "danger zone" because he may have trouble finding his footing after being out of the spotlight for so long. Zeke had a ton of momentum as ECW dissolved, but a string of injuries and personal tragedy have sidelined him since February. That in mind, you simply can't deny the presence that Jackson has inside the ring, and he's proven himself to be a strong wrestler as well. So long as WWE doesn't get too distracted with new guys, Zeke should be a top contender within the next year. Oh and team him up with Michael Tarver and make them the most unstoppable tag team wrestling has seen since the Road Warriors!

2. Kofi Kingston
Quite frankly, Kofi Kingston should've already been WWE Champion by now, his feud with Randy Orton should have ended with him winning the Royal Rumble and winning the title at WrestleMania. Unfortunately, as soon as 2010 began, all of his momentum had stalled out and the idea of him winning the Royal Rumble, let alone the WWE Title, seemed laughable. WWE completely missed the mark there, but have taken great strides to reestablish Kofi on Smackdown, so I wouldn't be shocked to see him holding a world championship by the end of 2011.

1. Christian
Did you have any doubt who would be number one? What more can I say about Christian that I haven't already? The fact that the guy is underrated is almost cliché at this point, but there's no one in WWE more deserving of a title run than Captain Charisma. He's worked his ass off since his return, can make anyone look terrific in the ring, and has been doing this for 15 years now. He's earned it and it needs to happen sooner rather than later.

  1. As long as Matt Hardy has to wrestle in a tank top because he's so out of shape, he won't be a World Champion.

  2. "total makeover" was my nice way of saying that.

  3. As much as I like Christian, I simply don't see him as a world champion in the next year. He's mostly been treated as a more talented version of Mark Henry since the end of ECW and, unfortunately, jobber to the stars doesn't spell out "Future World Champ" to me.

Then again, I said the same about Jeff Hardy, Rob Van Dam and even Kane - all of whom I love - so I guess you can never say never...but I think it's far more likely you'll see Big Zeke or Kofi at that level than Christian.

  4. You can never say never in WWE, I think no one proves that more than The Miz.
