Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson) released... "released?"

From WWE.com:

WWE has come to terms on the release of NXT first season rookie Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson) as of today June 11, 2010. We wish Daniel Bryan the best in all future endeavors.

So this was posted a few hours ago, and apparently I'm the only person on the internet that thinks it's real. Everyone is insisting that this is a fake firing, but it seems like wishful thinking to me. Danielson himself also changed his Twitter name tonight and mentioned the "winds of change," prompting people to say this "confirms" that this is an angle, but I don't really see how that works. Danielson probably changed his Twitter name because he was fired and can't go by the name Daniel Bryan anymore, and the "winds are changing" because he's leaving WWE.

This being a storyline just doesn't make any sense, unless WWE is really trying to mess with internet fans who read WWE.com at 10pm on a Friday night, but even still, it would be really stupid. Bryan is currently involved in the major NXT Invasion angle that began Monday night, in the context of that storyline, the Season 1 Rookies aren't employed by WWE, there's no contract to release him from. And when someone spits in John Cena's face, kicks him in the skull, chokes out Justin Roberts, beats up ringside attendants and tears up the ring, you don't "wish him well in all future endeavors" four days later.

I know it sucks and I hope I'm wrong, but Bryan Danielson is out of WWE, at least for now. No idea why they would let the guy go after making him the centerpiece of NXT and kicking off this red hot invasion storyline, but there's little doubt in my mind that he has been released.
