WWE Superstars Thoughts - November 26, 2009

Thanks for bearing with me after taking a few days off to celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope you had a happy and safe holiday as well. If you don't celebrate Thanksgiving, hopefully your Thursday was awesome!

Say what you will about WWE, but while other shows are repeats or lame recap episodes, WWE has all-new original programming on Thanksgiving with Superstars! Now with the holiday season in full-swing, I wouldn't be surprised if wrestling is the only new programming on at all.

Starting us off, Raw's contribution to Superstars, The Miz vs. Santino Marella in a non-title match. This has to be the longest Santino match in at least a year, wouldn't be surprised if you'd have to go back further to find a longer one. Not a bad match, but it is a Santino match, so his shtick overshadows most of the actual wrestling. Something needs to happen with Santino, I don't know if he's intentionally holding back in the ring, but there's only so much you can do with a guy who pretends his hand is a cobra. Santino has the tools that can't be learned, like natural comedic timing and loads of charisma, but I honestly feel like I've seen this match every time he's on Superstars.

You know what I'm thankful for? DVR. How many AutoZone commercials do they expect me to watch?!

Speaking of long matches, I'm surprised how much time was given to Goldust vs. Vladimir Kozlov. It's a shame about Goldust, the guy's been getting tremendous reactions every time he steps into the ECW ring, but they're not doing anything to capitalize on it. An impressive outing here, but Kozlov still comes out on top and William Regal hits The Bizarre One with the Knee Trembler just for the fun of it afterward. C'mon, why not give Goldust a shot at the ECW Title? Doesn't need to be anything too extravagant and he doesn't need to win, but I think Christian vs. Goldust would be a great main event for SyFy.

After a couple weeks with Raw in the spotlight, Smackdown is once again headlining Superstars, this week our main event is R-Truth vs. Dolph Ziggler! Okay, this match was awesome, and it's like these guys thought it was a PPV and not what could be the least-watched WWE program of the year. Even though Dolphy Z is in the middle of a MAJOR slump, he continues to deliver in the ring and
R-Truth's been on fire lately, so these two meshed quite well. Truth is on the verge of big things, and with Smackdown starved for top faces, I only hope this wave of momentum he's riding will take him to the top of Friday Nights. Seriously, if you missed Superstars this week because you were in a turkey coma or stuck in uncomfortable conversation with your family, make sure you catch this match.

  1. TNA Impact was a new episode on Thanksgiving day, Razor! I didn't even watch Superstars so thanks for the recap.

  2. Yes, I need to give props to TNA for putting out new episodes on Thanksgiving as well. That's the beauty of wrestling - always new programming.
