SummerSlam Predictions

Goliath vs. Goliath
Kane vs. The Great Khali
I'm really not excited about this match in the slightest. The feud made no sense when it started and it makes no sense now. As WWE continues to shift towards presenting the product as more of a legit sport, characters like Kane become more and more one-dimensional. Why is he doing all this to Khali, why's he kidnapping Ranjin Singh? I guess we're just supposed to assume it's all because he's EVIL! Anyway, I'll say Kane wins because he's due for his regularly scheduled PPV win for no apparent reason.

Grudge Match
Jack Swagger vs. MVP
Tough call on this one since the feud has barely gotten started, even though it's been going on for over a month. Swagger's a breakout star waiting to happen, but MVP desperately needs a win; after having tons of momentum in his move to Raw, he's completely stalled out. I'll say feud doesn't end here, Jack Swagger picks up the victory through some shenanigans and they have a rematch at Breaking Point.

Intercontinental Championship
Rey Mysterio © vs. Dolph Ziggler

I could see this one going either way since Rey has been doing wonders for the Intercontinental Title, but I'm fairly confident Dolph Ziggler will walk out as champ. But honestly, as great as Ziggler's been lately, I'm actually pulling for Mysterio in this one. As I said, Rey's great as champ, he deserves to move up into the main event scene, but I think things are going to get a little crowded soon, so why not let him hang onto the belt a little longer? The last time someone held the IC Title for more than six months was Shelton Benjamin way back in 2005. Let Rey get that kind of run and have him go down as one of the greatest IC Champions in history.

Unified Tag Team Championship
Chris Jericho & Big Show © vs. Cryme Tyme
Pop quiz: when's the last time Cryme Tyme had a match on PPV? Was it last year's Survivor Series when they were on Team HBK? I don't remember anything since then. This is definitely Cryme Tyme's biggest PPV match ever, it's been built extremely well, but I don't think they're going to be walking out with the tag titles, which have eluded them for years now. Jericho & Big Show pick up the win and continue their dominance over all WWE brands... which reminds me, when are we going to get to see them make an ECW appearance?

ECW Championship
Christian © vs. William Regal

This is my pick in the latest Kick-Out!! Poll, I can't wait to see these two lock up on PPV. The addition of Vladimir Kozlov & Ezekiel Jackson as Regal's running buddies makes this one a tough one to decide. I could definitely see the odds being too stacked against the ECW Champion and Regal walks out with the gold, but I also think it's too soon for Captain Charisma to drop the belt. I think Christian manages to get his hand raised, but this feud will be far from over. A submission match between these two at Breaking Point would be a great rematch, WWE already listened to my begging and gave us this feud, so hopefully they'll do it again next month.

DX vs. Legacy
Triple H & Shawn Michaels vs. Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase
The only mystery about this match is whether or not Legacy will be stuffed into a crate that says "Mail to: FCW - Tampa, FL" when it's over. Rhodes & DiBiase got their licks in on Monday, and that's the most dominant they'll look in this whole feud. HBK & HHH wipe the floor with these two and move onto other things... perhaps the Unified Tag Titles?

WWE Championship
Randy Orton © vs. John Cena
Not sure who's going to win this one, but I really REALLY want John Cena to win, so he's my pick. These two are an interesting dichotomy in WWE: Randy Orton is much more interesting without a title and John Cena is much more interesting with one. We all know I have my issues with Randy Orton, but it's not like I think the guy is incapable of great things; and we all know I love John Cena, but he hasn't really been all that impressive as of late. I think the problem is their roles are reversed - Orton should be chasing a title and Cena should be the top dog. Cena's at his best when he's in a big match situation, as WWE Champion, he knows how to make every match feel just a little bit bigger - he even made Khali watchable! Orton is at his best when he's going after something, not when he already has it. Orton's reign can be summed up as this "I'm WWE Champion and you can't do anything about it," then he gets his ass handed to him in every match until Legacy interferes. Get the belt on Cena and I think a lot of Raw's problems can be turned around.

TLC Match for the World Heavyweight Championship
Jeff Hardy © vs. CM Punk

This year, there have been two matches in WWE that have really stood out as something even bigger than Match of the Year candidates: Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania and Chris Jericho vs. Rey Mysterio at The Bash. If all goes well, we could be adding this match to that very short list on Sunday night. This has been the greatest feud of 2009 and it all culminates in this match, which is sure to be absolutely phenomenal. I'll take CM Punk to win here and if Jeff Hardy is indeed taking a break from WWE, it will solidify Punk's status as the biggest heel in pro wrestling today. And how crazy is it that after SummerSlam, we could be referring to CM Punk as a three-time World Heavyweight Champion?

Don't forget to leave your predictions in the comments below and make sure to check back here at Kick-Out!! Wrestling Sunday night for my full review of SummerSlam!

  1. I think it's great that you base your predictions purely on the talent of the superstars, and not your personal preference. With the exception of the three members of Legacy, our opinions are very similar. I try to be hopeful about Cryme Tyme, though. I want them to pull out a win.

  2. Well, to be fair... my WWE Title match prediction is entirely personal preference. :-P

  3. Great predicitons Razor but with what Matt Hardy twitted the other day I'm not so sure about the WHC match. So here we go with my predictions.

Kane vs Khali makes no sense whatsoever for this ppv I know they've been building this up for some apparent reason but it should have kept going until the PPV called Hell in a Cell and they could have gone at it in a Punjambi Prison match or even a HIAC match. I'm gonna say Khali gets the win to keep the people in India happy. Did you know when he was a full on heel they edited to look like he was a face in India? Crazy but true.

Jack Swagger vs MVP had a little bit of a build up. I hate Swagger and want him no where near the main event scene he can be a US or IC champ all day everyday but the All American Loser needs to stay away from the WWE and WHC titles so I'm gonna say MVP even though in all honesty it's a 50/50 shot

Mysterio vs Ziggler should be another great match. Mysterio has really helped Ziggler step up his game big time this time last year I was hoping for Ziggler to be fired and now I want him to beat one of my favorite wrestlers lol so I'm gonna hope for Ziggler to get his first IC title reign but I'm gonna say Rey Rey pulls it off again.

JeriShow vs Cryme Tyme one again I'm gonna hope that Cryme Tyme gets their first Tag Title run but it seems highly unlikely that JeriShow are gonna drop those belts just yet so again I hope Cryme Tyme wins but gonna say JeriShow wins

Christian vs Regal I know a lot of ppl are high on Regal but he has always annoyed me. This feud is in the beginning stages and Regal even has his own stable so either Regal will cheat to win or get disqualified

DX vs Legacy who the hell knows given the way they've been trying to build up those two 2nd gen guys in DiBiase and Rhodes. I would hope DX mops the floor with them but for some reason I have a feeling that Legacy cheats to win maybe Orton comes down and distracts Triple H all I know is if DX loses I hope they add at least one more member to the group to even the score on Legacy don't want to see a bunch of 2 on 3 handicap matches. DX needs to be done right or not at all. so with this I predict Legacy but hope DX

Orton vs Cena as much as I dislike Cena for practically being a carbon copy of Hulk Hogan bad movies and all I can't stand Orton being champion anymore however The Miz has hinted that he's gonna have an impact at SummerSlam so he could end up causing Orton to retain the title. I know he's being moved into a prgram for the US title but Kofi doesn't have a match either so if what he twitted is true then look for him to make his presence felt in the title match. My prediction is Orton retains by any means necessary lol

Jeff Hardy vs CM Punk before today I would have said well it's a no brainer CM Punk is gonna win because Jeff is taking some time off. Well know that I have read that Matt Hardy Twitted that Jeff isn't leaving the WWE then I have to say Hardy keeps the title but the match ends with a DQ either by Matt or Morrisson or possibly both but this match doesn't end cleanly and it doesn't involve a title change.

  4. but i thought there was a no DQ policy for tlc matches so some one has to win !
