Big news from WWE.com that I have to pass along:
"In accordance with WWE's Wellness Program, effective Wednesday, September 2, Oscar Gutierrez (Rey Mysterio) is suspended for 30 days for a violation of the company’s policy."
Awful news for several reasons: Mysterio just successfully defended the Intercontinental Title at SummerSlam, he's scheduled to defend it at Breaking Point, he's one of the few top faces on Smackdown and most saddening, he's one of the most popular wrestlers in the world, especially among young fans. Now of course, it's important to remember that one Wellness Policy violation isn't an indication that someone is being a bad role model; all it takes is one painkiller that you have an expired prescription for and you're out. We don't know the details, so it's not fair to Rey Mysterio or WWE to speculate.
What this means for Smackdown and the IC Title is unknown, but I assume whoever wins in the Dolph Ziggler vs. Finlay vs. Mike Knox match on Superstars tonight will be the next champ.
